With Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio deal running out soon, rumor has it the shock jock will take his show to Apple’s iTunes.

At least that’s the story that was circulating on the Web today, when Rolling Stone, BizJournals.com, the New Jersey Star-Ledger and at least 50 other outlets picked it up.

It originated with a tweet Thursday, the source of which no one seemed able to fully identify. It apparently came from the Twitter account SIRI_STOCK, which Rolling Stone reported is not connected with Sirius.

The various reports handle the information in different ways, with many sources making the point that anyone can say just about anything on Twitter.

Stern’s deal with Sirius will be over at the end of the year, and a variety of rumors have been swirling around the fate of his popular show. The rumor that surfaced in the tweet has Stern poised to sign a three-year, $600 million dollar deal to transfer his program to iTunes and set up shop with a new Internet, TV and radio venture.
