Wanted: Katie Couric to Create Syndicated Daytime Talk Show

Dec 16, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Multiple syndicators are talking with Katie Couric about creating a daytime show, Page Albiniak is reporting for B&C.

As Couric’s $15 million annual contract with CBS News expires in May, she’s considering her options, the article notes.

While daytime couldn’t pay her as much as her current contract, it could bring her as much as $5 million a year plus a piece of her show, the story notes, adding that 2012 would be a good time for her to debut a syndicated program. That’s because the impact of Oprah Winfrey’s departure from daytime should be known by then and stations will have more cash, while Comcast should have completed its purchase of NBC, possibly lending NBC-owned stations to become more interested in buying daytime shows, the article adds.

Nevertheless, the story points out that Couric is likely to stay at CBS News if she can negotiate an attractive package there.
