John Dye, who starred in all nine seasons of CBS’ "Touched by an Angel," has died, reports the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He was 47.

Dye had a heart attack at his home in San Francisco, his brother Jerre Dye told the publication.

Dye, who played the Angel of Death on the show, had worked on other television shows, including "The Young and the Restless," and was a regular cast member on short-lived 1980s and 1990s TV shows such as "Hotel Malibu" and "Tour of Duty," although he was best known for his work on "Touched by an Angel, the story notes.

"He turned the idea of the Angel of Death into something that was compassionate and welcoming," said his brother. "He not only took the role very seriously, in true John form he took on a greater responsibility of wanting to be there for people–to be a loving person. The people John loved–he poured so much love into us."
