Microsoft has filed a U.S. trade complaint seeking to keep TiVo from importing television set-top boxes from Mexico, reports Bloomberg News. The claim is based on patent infringement.
The four patents in the case involve program schedules and selection, a way to restrict the use of the DVR based on a program’s rating and controlling the interface, the story notes.
The complaint is part of a fight that started over a year ago when Microsoft challenged TiVo patents that were being asserted against Microsoft customer AT&T, the story says. Microsoft said the two sides are in talks to settle the dispute.
"We look forward to continued negotiations with TiVo," a Microsoft spokesman said. A TiVo spokeswoman had no comment, the article says.
