Steve Carell, the star of NBC’s comedy "The Office," will be leaving the show earlier than had been expected, reports TVLine

According to "Office" executive producer Greg Daniels, Carell will be leaving earlier than the show’s season finale. "“The big ‘Goodbye, Steve’ thing will be before [May] sweeps," Daniels said. The story says that the final weeks of the season will portray the interviewing and jockeying going on for Michael Scott’s job. "We’d rather play out the stories of the various characters who want that seat, and show them fight for it," Daniels said.

Kathy Bates will return to reprise her role of Joe Bennett, the CEO of Dunder-Mifflin’s parent company, Sabre, who returns to help select Michael’s successor, the article notes. adding that the finale is tentatively scheduled to run for an hour.

  1. I think the exit of Steve Carell is the exit of the office entirely. Watching that show especially working in a corporate setting is such a hoot. His character just oozes disgust and I find myself laughing and hating him at the same time. Still, I don’t think the office can be the same without him even with the beginning of the end and wish a different decision had been made. There are several strong characters on that show but not to the level of presence as Carell. Still, as a show that I usually try hard not to miss I will watch it end and will be doing so from far away from the comfort of my couch. I do have a Sling Adapter that I got through Dish Network where I work so to have the ability to stay on top of my favorites while I am catching flights to various prearranged business ordeals. The Sling streams my programming to my iPad which is great and it works flawlessly. I find that when I’m away from the comforts of home it’s nice to bring a little but along for the ride. More importantly I will be able to watch the final episodes of my home away from home as the Office finally closes for business.
