Seeking to Highlight Online Stars, YouTube Has Weekly Talk Show

Seeking to highlight people whose videos have become Internet sensations, YouTube has started a weekly talk show with contributors who have attracted millions of online fans, reports the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

Called the "Partners Project,"  the show started last month and has featured Dane Boedigheimer, who created the animated series "The Annoying Orange," and Justine Ezarik, who shares videos about her life called "iJustine."

The show is hosted by video blogger Shira Lazar and each segment is about 8 minutes to 10 minutes long, the story notes. While many online stars might have large followings on the Web, they remain unknown to much of the public, the article adds.

It cites Joe Penna, the focus of the series’ most recent interview, who has drawn 206 million video views for his music videos created under the name "MysteryGuitarMan." “A little bit over a year ago I was sleeping on the floor, stealing my neighbor’s Wi-Fi and going to, like, a soup kitchen to be able to eat. And now I have my own studio," Penna said in the interview.
