A 14-year old boy is crediting his survival during 10 hours lost in a frozen wilderness to watching Discovery Channel’s "Man vs. Wild," reports The Hollywood Reporter’s The Live Feed blog.

Portland resident Jake Denham got separated from his mother last week during a ski trip, and used information he learned from the Discovery show to plan his survival, building a snow bank to stay warm and looking for the North Star for directions while awaiting rescue, the story notes.

According to KOHD-TV, Denham is also an avid fan of "Survivorman," which follows survival expert Les Stroud as he’s left in a remote location for seven days.
