Syfy has big plans for its Saturday night lineup of B-movie fare, reports Brian Steinberg in Advertising Age.
Syfy will pitch these movies, such as "Sharktopus" and "Mega Piranha," to marketers at this year’s upfront presentation, the story notes. The network also plans to add digital- and social-media components, so advertisers can sponsor fans’ comments about the shows, for instance.
Blake Callaway, senior vice president of marketing at Syfy, says while the plans are in a "brainstorm phase," the network is looking for a way to "aggregate social commentary,’ allowing marketers to buy sponsorships.
The films, which are all originals, last year drew an average viewership of 1.975 million, with some breaking 2 million viewers.
