ABC News has announced changes for its weekend “World News” broadcasts, TVNewser.com reports.

The network has tapped David Muir as the sole anchor for the show, which will now be called "World News With David Muir," according to the story.

Muir, a multiple Emmy Award winner, joined ABC News eight years ago to anchor the overnight news program "World News Now," the story says. He has anchored "World News" from locations including Cairo and Beijing.

ABC News president Ben Sherwood wrote in a staff memo,"His recent reporting from Cairo illustrates his passion for journalism and his exceptional abilities in the field. As he demonstrated last month when news broke of the mass shootings in Tucson, David is a trusted and reassuring presence at the anchor desk."
