A "60 Minutes" correspondent is recovering in a U.S. hospital after suffering a brutal sexual attack by a mob in Cairo’s main square while she was covering the fall of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, reports the New York Post.

The article says Lara Logan was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a group of men shouting, "Jew! Jew!," who dragged her away from her TV crew, the story says. The attack took place Feb. 11, the same day Mubarak stepped down, but CBS initially kept the story under wraps. The network decided to make the incident public because other media outlets had picked up on the attack, the article adds.

"She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers," CBS said in a statement Tuesday.

The article notes that Logan, 39, is not Jewish. It adds that it’s believed she was separated from her colleagues and attacked for 20 to 30 minutes, leading to serious injuries.

Within two hours of the attack, Logan was flown out of Cairo on a chartered network jet, with the network deciding not to take her to an Egyptian hospital or go to Egyptian authorities because network officials felt they couldn’t trust them, the story says.
