MSNBC and Al Gore, the Nobel laureate and former vice president, got into a dispute after Gore and other Current TV officials announced former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann will be joining Current TV to headline a new nightly program later this spring, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.
Gore said during a conference call with reporters that although Current TV has low viewership, "We have more subscribers today than MSNBC had when Keith Olbermann began working for them" in 2003, the story notes.
MSNBC disputed Gore’s claim, citing Nielsen data that showed MSNBC had 78.4 million subscribers in 2003, the article adds.
An Olbermann representative responded by saying that only 74% of those subscribers were in the U.S., which could give Current TV a slight advantage, the piece says.
"I don’t know what he’s talking about," replied an MSNBC spokesman.
This is great. Current will have huge ratings (for them) when this launches. Just as long as Keith can keep some controversy going to create noise and let people know that he is going on.
Keith career is over. Might as well be on cable access.
