Report: A Senior News Corp. Executive Says Hulu CEO’s Job Is in Jeopardy Because of Blog the CEO Wrote Knocking Traditional TV

A senior, unnamed executive at News Corp–which co-owns Hulu–says Hulu’s CEO job is in jeopardy due to a blog the CEO has written that knocks traditional TV, according to the respected Business Insider website.

According to the article, "A top News Corp exec is telling people Hulu CEO Jason Kilar is as good as gone, a source tells us. [Wednesday night, Feb. 2, 2011] Kilar published a blog post arguing that traditional TV has too many ads and that Hulu’s ads are 2X as effective as TV ads."

The article continues, "The problem for Kilar is that Hulu is a joint venture between three companies that make a ton of money off TV ads – Disney, News Corporation, and Comcast. People at those companies are furious."

In a follow-up article, Business Insider writes, "Hulu CEO Jason Kilar’s aggressive blog post on "the future of TV" may well get him fired, industry insiders are saying. So why is he doing it? One theory, floated to us by an industry source, is that Hulu may have tried to raise financing but couldn’t get any — so Kilar is trying to go out with a bang."

This second article continues, "We don’t know if this is the case — it could be totally wrong, Hulu declined to comment — but it’s worth considering."
