Charlie’s parents are discussing getting a conservatorship of their son. Martin and Janet know that it’s highly unlikely their petition would be granted, but they are trying to do whatever possible to save Charlie’s life.’ "
The article notes the Britney Spears family made a similar move.
The story concludes, "Martin Sheen recognizes ‘that Charlie isn’t rehabbing at home. That term just doesn’t exist. Charlie is calling the shots, he hasn’t surrendered to sobriety, and until that happens, this cycle won’t end. Charlie is absolutely refusing to go to rehab. He is a 45 year old man, and no one can force him to go. That is why his parents are exploring what legal options they have if any to save his life,’ the insider told us."
Charlie has to accept the bitter fact he is out of control where it concerns his alcoholism – if anything, Charlie’s face in recent photos show his features are taking on a long time alcoholic aging look – and its something one can’t get away from. I’ve seen something play out like this a few times in my life. Long time abuse of drinks and/or drugs can age a person rapidly after a point – and its an eventual liver killer. My Uncle got to the point where he had no more teeth and his facial features looked more like a skull than a face. My aunt loved him deeply, and she asked his physician what she could do. After a battery of tests, the doctors said my uncle was too far gone – and advised allowing him to drink to his death – there was no way they could save him from himself – and a few months later, his liver gave out and he died. Martin Sheen and his wife love their son deeply, they are trying to be proactive for his sake and his life. I can honestly feel for Mr. & Mrs. Martin Sheen as well for Charlie himself and his children. It is terrible what the alcohol is doing to Charlie, but just as terrible as to what its doing to his children. If home therapy is not working, Charlie has to bite the bullet and realize he needs to go to a drug and alcohol clinic for inpatient treatment. I really hope the court has the brains and compassion to give Martin and his wife conservatorship for Charlie’s sake. Charlie has to recognize he is not superman, he needs to seriously look in the mirror and simply tell himself this is not working. Charlie can turn it around, but the truth is only Charlie as an individual can do it. His parents can help, but Charlie is going to have to want that help. Otherwise, his parents are going to lose a son, and his children are going to lose a father. Charlie, do the right thing – go for the help – I’m not against you, but I am for you getting well. If nothing else they should get conservatorship over his money. He is going through it like water and people are taking advantage of him. His children deserve some trust to be set up to protect them.
I love Charlie as an actor and comedian…but it’s terrible to see him destroy his life by being unwilling or unable to get control of his alcoholism. A very sad situation. As much as I would want him back on the show, I would first want him to clean up and get sober. That’s the most important thing in his life right now–if he doesn’t, he’s not long for this world, which would be a real tragedy for someone at the top of his acting game and as a father to great kids.
charly my farther was a booza he could drink a fifth of scotch in one day buy his friends drinks at a bar and the sad thing my brother and i think is he was a sick man.
