Cable Net Salutes Regis and Other TV Icons

Though Regis Philbin has made it clear he’s not retiring when he leaves his daytime show later rthis year, he will get a salute as one of the true icons of TV.

Philbin, along wtih Mel Brooks, Don Rickles, Garry Marshall and the TV shows "Family Ties" and "The Cosby Show" have all been named recipients the Legend Award, the highest honor given by the TV Land cable channel. 

The Legend Award is given to an entertainer or TV show that has "stood the test of time and ranks among the most celebrated in entertainment history," according to an announcement by TV Land

TV Land President Larry Jones said of Philbin’s award, "Regis Philbin is an adored television icon. A native New Yorker, he has given a slice of the city to all of his loyal viewers. TV Land is thrilled to have an opportunity to honor him."

The TV Land Awards are slated to be broadcast Sunday, April 17.

  1. A well deserved honor for Regis. He is truly one of the legends of television who has had success with three generations of television watchers.
