One of the iconic shows on cable TV in recent years has been "Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan" on the National Geographic Channel. Now, the show is moving networks, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The show is moving to Nat Geo Wild, a spinoff from National Geographic Channel that debuted in March 2010.

The next season of the show is slated to debut in early 2012 and will air exclusively on Nat Geo Wild, the story notes.

Having the show "is going to be a really critical part of getting even more recognition for the network,” said Geoff Daniels, senior vice president, development and production at the spinoff network.

Before landing on Nat Geo in 2004 and becoming a hit, "Dog Whisperer" had been hoping to get on Animal Planet. But at the time AP would only commit to a pilot episode, while Nat Geo was willing to give the show a full season order right away.

With animal programming moving to Nat Geo Wild, the flagship National Geographic channel will focus more on science programming, including a new show called "CSI Me", with forensic experts ferreting out the life stories of living people, the article notes.
