‘Idol’ Crushes the Competition Again in Wednesday Ratings

Fox juggernaut “American Idol” was even stronger Wednesday night–up 3% from the previous week in adults 18-49 and 6% higher in total viewers–as Fox cruised to a huge ratings win for the night, TVbytheNumbers.com reported.

Fox finished with an 8.0 average rating for the night in the 18-49 demo, crushing CBS (2.4 average), ABC (1.6), Univision (1.5) and NBC (1.1). In total viewers, Fox averaged 24.2 million for the night, well ahead of CBS (9.4 million), ABC (5.0 million), NBC (4.0 million) and Univision (4.0 million).

At 8 p.m. the first hour of "Idol" netted a 7.6 average rating in the 18-49 demographic, outdistancing CBS’s "Survivor," which had a 3.2 in the same demo. CW’s "America’s Next Top Model" had a 1.1, followed by NBC’s "Minute to Win It" with a 1.0.

At 9 p.m. hour two of "Idol" rose to an 8.4 in the 18-49 demo. The only fresh competition was ABC’s "Mr. Sunshine" (at 9:30) with a 1.8 and CW’s "Shedding for the Wedding," which had a 0.5 for the hour, both in the same demo.

In the 10 p.m. hour CBS’s "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" had a 2.2 in the 18-49, ahead of ABC’s "Off the Map" with a 1.4, both in the 18-49 demo.
