The Encore channel has a documentary in production on the life and career a superstar entertainer, filmmaker, comic and philanthropist, the UPI reports. The subject is Jerry Lewis, who turns 85 today.

According to the story, "The documentary is under way and includes appearances by Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, Woody Harrelson, Richard Belzer, Carol Burnett, Chevy Chase, Carl Reiner and director John Landis. The documentary has been in production for three years, with Gregg Branson as producer-director."

The production will include behind-the-scenes footage from the Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon, which Lewis chairs.

Stephan Shelanski, executive VP of programming for Encore parent Starz Entertainment, said, “This will not be a typical biography on him, but more of a candid look at the man himself as he reflects on his career now and over the years. It will remind us of Jerry’s true genius as a comedian."

  1. This is a great idea. Few people know the extent of Lewis’ contributions to film. Beyond just acting and writing. He invented video assist and other key techniques.
