One of the stars of the 1980s ABC hit “Moonlighting” has her eye on a return to a regular TV series role, Deadline.com reports. The ABC comedy pilot "My Freakin’ Family" has cast Cybill Shepherd in a lead role.

Shepherd will play the mother of Raj, whose life with his wife Anna changes when they have a baby boy and the couple’s four parents arrive, the story says. Shepherd’s character Nell is "uptight and sophisticated" and dresses in traditional Indian clothing. She wants to be involved in the baby’s life so that he doesn’t become "white" like her son.

Shepherd, a former model and beauty queen, starred opposite Bruce Willis in "Moonlighting" and has had a solid career in movies, starting with her breakout role in “The Last Picture Show” in 1971. She recently appeared in an arc on USA’s "Psych."
