Charlie Sheen continued his whirlwind media tour Friday, calling “Access Hollywood Live” to, among other things, answer recent accusations of anti-Semitism with the unexpected revelation that he’s Jewish.
“My mom is Jewish,” said the star of “Two and a Half Men.” “So I guess that would make me Jewish, and my children Jewish. And Brooke [Mueller], my ex-wife, is Jewish. So I guess I should’ve rolled all that out too.”
Sheen also unveiled plans to head to earthquake-ravaged Haiti next week with Sean Penn, who founded the J/P Haitian Relief Organization after a devastating earthquake struck the country in January 2010. Said Sheen: “I’m excited as hell because, you know, if I can bring the attention of the world down there, then clearly this tsunami keeps cresting.”
Penn, who continues to carry out charity efforts with regular visits to Haiti, describes his friend Sheen in different terms from how he has generally been portrayed in the media.
In an interview with GQ reported by “Access Hollywood Live,” Penn said, “When you divorce the moral judgments, which I prefer to do, I see a guy who has a clearer view of the nature of the world around him than is sometimes comfortable to have. Those are the sort of people who have a tendency to find altered states. But [Charlie] is a very ironic character. He’s got pretension in the crosshairs of his wit. I think to a large degree he’s saying, ‘Guys, we’re only going to be here once, so lighten the f*** up.’”
