‘The Kennedys’ Producer Points the Finger at Who’s Behind Miniseries’ Troubles–and It’s Political

Joel Surnow, the producer of the troubled miniseries "The Kennedys," tells the Los Angeles Times‘ Show Tracker blog that he blames Democratic bigwigs for blocking the project from airing on the History network.

Surnow said his own political leanings as a conservative became a problem, and that if known liberals such as Tom Hanks or Steven Spielberg had been behind the project, the miniseries "would have seen the light of day on History Channel," the article notes.

Surnow added that "some of the same people" who were involved in protests against ABC’s 2006 miniseries "The Path to 9/11" were involved with also protesting "The Kennedys." Surnow noted that when it comes to storytelling he doesn’t have a political agenda, and he added that he believes Kennedy was a "good president," the story says.

The production, starring Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes, eventually landed at ReelzChannel, where it is scheduled to air April 3.
