Tom Hanks to Do Something He Hasn’t Done Since 1984: Guest-Star in a Sitcom

Marking his first guest appearance on a television series since 1984, Tom Hanks will appear on an NBC sitcom, reports EW.com’s InsideTV blog.

Hanks announced the upcoming guest spot on “30 Rock” in a Twitter message, the story says. Hanks, a two-time Oscar winner, started off on television and starred in the early 1980s comedy "Bosom Buddies.” His last guest-starring role on a TV show was as Uncle Ned on "Family Ties" in 1984.

"30 Rock" has tapped other big stars to appear in guest spots, including Jennifer Aniston, Steve Martin and Oprah Winfrey, the piece notes.

  1. Tom Hanks guest-starred in “The Naked Truth” in 1995 and “Life with Bonnie” in 2002. The EW.com writer probably overlooked these roles because the Internet Movie Database lists “Self” appearances in a separate section.

  2. As I see people have been quick to point out over at EW, Hanks appeared on Bonnie Hunt’s sitcom Life With Bonnie in the early part of this century. (They’re also citing an appearance on The Naked Truth, which I do not recall.)
