During an appearance Tuesday on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," one of the original Not Ready for Primetime Players said the late John Belushi was a misogynistic comic who had it in for the females working on "Saturday Night Live," reports Jezebel.com.
Jane Curtin recalled that Belushi said at the time, "Women are just fundamentally not funny." She added that during sketches, Belushi tried to undermine the material from the female writers.
"He felt as if it were his duty to sabotage pieces that were written by women," Curtin said on the show, according to the report.
Some of the most memorable moments of Jane on SNL were her Point-Counterpoint discussions with Dan Akroyd. Every discussion began with the words, “Jane, you ignorant slut”. Perhaps Jane still resents the implications of this phrase. Can’t say as I blame her. If you call someone “Jane, you ignorant slut” often enough, people will subconsciously begin to follow the name Jane with the words, “you ignorant slut”. Jane Curtain is neither ignorant nor a slut but those words will be associated with her as long as she is remembered. That is a pity and totally unfair.
Yes, but it was funny, so it was totally worth it.
