NBC Cancels Series

NBC has canceled a prime-time show whose performance has been so poor that it stood out even with almost the entire network lineup performing poorly–and it only took two episodes for NBC to pull the plug, reports the Futon Critic.

The series is "The Paul Reiser Show." The debut episode drew 3.37 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults 18 to 49 years old, but the numbers fell to 2.38 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in 18 to 49 for the second episode, which aired last Thursday, the story says.

The network plans to air repeats of "The Office" during the 8:30 p.m. time slot on Thursdays for the final four weeks of the TV season, the story says.

Reiser was once a fixture of NBC’s "Must-See TV" Thursday night lineup, starring opposite Helen Hunt in "Mad About You."

  1. Paul is great, but it was Helen Hunt that balanced him out for a very watchable show.

  2. I wish they would bring back Perfect Couples to that slot. Tha show was really getting into a groove when they cancelled it to put that awful Paul Reiser show there…

  3. WEEL IT’S NBC THEY WILL NEVER LEARN GAVE UP ON THEM 15 YEARS AGO!!

  4. Well, they put it up against American Idol, on the cuts-night no less, and give it only 2 episode airings before the ax.
What the heck were they expecting?!?
    !?!
The show (any show) never had a chance.

  5. NBC should have aired the show after “30 Rock”.
Both shows are about celebrities, and the TV industry—and appeal to the same viewing audience.

  6. It is my thoughts that, had NBC done a real audience surveys, with truely real diverse groups, icluding that of different age groups…this show would not have made it to air. Now, with Comcast bringing in a much smarter group leaders, I expect NBC to get its act together quickly. NBC will most likely return to its top spot within two years.

  7. Wait! Paul Reiser had a show?
