Donna Douglas, the actress who played Elly May Clampett in the classic television series "The Beverly Hillbillies," is suing Mattel over a Barbie doll that she claims resembles her, reports The New York Times’ ArtsBeat blog.
Douglas claims the toy, called the "Beverly Hillbillies Elly May Barbie Doll," uses her likeness without permission. In her lawsuit, the actress alleges the doll "creates the false public impression that Ms. Douglas has endorsed” the toy.
Mattel told Reuters that the toy company had licensed the rights to "The Beverly Hillbillies" through "the appropriate channels."
The sitcom, which aired originally on CBS from 1962 to 1971, continues to air in syndication.
