Much of the drama surrounding Wednesday’s finale of “American Idol” apparently took place behind the scenes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Soon after the show, in which Scotty McCreery was picked as the champion for season 10, a war of tweets broke out between executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and last year’s champ, Lee DeWyze.

Lythgoe tweeted that he was unhappy with DeWyze: "I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn’t present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he’d been on the show this season. I guess he was shy."

DeWyze later tweeted this response: "I was not asked to be involved in the finale. It wasn’t until about two minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could ‘borrow’ me for a second. I didn’t feel a last-second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty’s moment."

Lythgoe was not involved in the show when DeWyze was crowned as champion. The producer was on a two-year hiatus from “Idol” at the time, before he returned for this season.

DeWyze was more conciliatory in a later tweet: "I appreciate American Idol and the opportunity it has given me. And the people who have made that show possible. I am not angry or bitter etc. It was an amazing finale, and I would have loved to be a part of it. I just wasn’t asked."

  1. Nigel is such a queen, but I would not call this much of a feud.
