NBA Won’t Mess With Oprah–League Changes Playoff Date to Accommodate Daytime Star’s Big Event

Instead of getting a few extra days of rest before the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat, the teams will play game one on Sunday, May 15, because Oprah has already booked Chicago’s United Center, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The NBA might have forced the issue with another event or another performer, but not Oprah Winfrey. The first game was scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, but Oprah’s using the building that day.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" is taping a two-hour all-star show at the United Center arena on Monday and Tuesday, and the producers booked the place well in advance. Nobody with the Chicago Bulls organization, apparently, figured they’d need the arena for the playoffs.

On May 23 and May 24, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will televise the event in two episodes, leading up to her final show May 25.
