Popular Unscripted Show, Still Chasing Elusive Emmy, Switches Categories After Coming Up Short for Years

After years of trying unsuccessfully to win an Emmy in the outstanding nonfiction series category, a popular unscripted show is switching to a different category: outstanding reality program, reports EW.com’s Inside TV blog.

"Deadliest Catch," which airs on Discovery, has lost in the nonfiction category every year since 2006, mostly to shows from public television, such as "The National Parks: America’s Best Idea" in 2010, the story says.

“For some reason they don’t really look at our show as worthy of … or at the level of PBS shows. I don’t know why," said Thom Beers, chief executive of Original Productions, which produces the show.

Last year, the winner in the outstanding reality program category was "Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution," which competed against "Undercover Boss" and "MythBusters," among other programs.
