Report: TV Academy Close to Signing New Deal For Primetime Emmy Telecast; Looks Like One Network Will Host

May 4, 2011  •  Post A Comment

According to  Ray Richmond at Deadline.com, "Deadline has just learned that a new deal to telecast the Primetime Emmy Awards is imminent and that Fox will host without any radical changes to the show."

In the story, posted on Tuesday night, May 3, 2011, Richmond continues, "This is the reason for Wednesday night’s Academy of Television Arts and Sciences calling an emergency meeting of its Board of Governors at 7 PM."

One concern some had about a new TV deal was that some of the award categories would be knocked off the telecast in an effort to streamline the show, the article notes. However, with the new deal this will not happen, Richmond writes.

The balance of the article is actually written by Nikki Finke, and talks about the various issues she claims the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences faced in trying to get a new TV deal for the Primetime Emmys.

  1. What I got from that source is NOT that Fox will be the sole broadcaster, but that they would have the show this year since their next in the rotation.
The broadcast networks want to cut out a number of categories and put less focus on cable.
Fox would be a good candidate if they were the only broadcaster as NBC doesn’t want to preempt football.
