Ryan Seacrest is developing a rival singing competition show to "American Idol" with NBC, reports the New York Post.

Seacrest and his production company are developing "another music concept, which is a totally different kind of competition show," said Paul Telegdy, who heads NBC’s alternative programming. "It is self-contained episodes. It is a bit more fun. It’s not contestant competitive. It’s artist competitive."

Seacrest’s plans raise the question of whether he will leave "Idol." which he currently hosts, after next season to work on the new singing show. The show is now in the very early stages of development.
