Rubicon Group Holding, an entertainment company in Jordan, has announced that it will be building a theme park based on the "Star Trek" franchise, reports AttractionsManagement.com.

The park will be built in Aqaba, Jordan, at a cost of $1 billion. Paramount Recreation will develop the “Star Trek” elements in the park, which will be called The Red Sea Astrarium.

In a statement, Liz Kalodner, EVP and general manager of CBS Consumer Products, explained, "At its core, ‘Star Trek’ is about bringing worlds together and about a profound hope for the future. We are proud to bring such a unique, interactive ‘Star Trek’ property to this part of the world to be a part of Jordan’s future."

The park is expected to open in 2014.

  1. How about opening one of those here in the States?

  2. The King of Jordan is a serious Trekkie. He did a walk-on role when he was prince.

  3. Really! I didn’t know that. Do you know what episode he was in?
