NBC News revealed its transition plan Monday for “Today,” with the plan being essentially what was expected, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Meredith Vieira will leave the show in June, taking on an unspecified new role with the news divisiion. Current “Today” news anchor Ann Curry will move into the co-anchor’s spot alongside Matt Lauer.

Natalie Morales, who currently co-hosts the third hour of “Today,” will replace Curry as news anchor, and Savannah Guthrie, NBC White House correspondent, will take over Curry’s 9 a.m. spot.

“Today” has been the brightest spot in NBC’s bleak current ratings picture, ranking as the top morning news show for the past 15 years.
