“Spider-Man” star Tobey Maguire was apparently the king of the table in a series of high-stakes poker games featuring an all-star lineup of Hollywood figures, and now he’s being sued for his winnings, TMZ.com reported.

Other stars who reportedly took part in the unlicensed games–but who aren’t named in the lawsuit–include Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the story says. The actors apparently gathered regularly for high-stakes Texas Hold ‘em poker games in the Hollywood area from 2006-2009, with tens of thousands of dollars changing hands.

The trouble stems from the alleged participation of Brad Ruderman, who’s now doing time for running a Ponzi scheme. A bankruptcy trustee attempting to recoup money lost in the scheme is saying Ruderman used money from the scheme to pay off gambling debts from the poker games, according to an AP story. As the big winner, Maguire is among the targets.

The actor is being sued for $311,000 plus interest, the AP reported.

  1. Oops!

  2. When you invest in a “it’s sounds to good to be true”, well you deserve whatever you get, or don’t get. But to sue some poker guys for your investment, you gotta be kidding me !!

  3. You got to know when to walk away, know when to run!

  4. It’s time for ridiculous suits like this to be made illegal. Before playing poker, all participants should first hire lawyers to investigate the finances of those they play? Pathetic.
