Chris Meloni, who only last month confirmed that he’s leaving his starring role in "Law & Order: SVU," has confirmed that he has already landed a role in a potential Hollywood blockbuster, reports New York Magazine’s Vulture entertainment blog.

According to the article, Meloni will be in the upcoming reboot of the "Superman" franchise, called "Man of Steel."

There has been some speculation that he was trying to get the role of Lex Luthor, the article says, but Meloni tells Vulture that "he’d be instead playing a general in the movie. But when we pressed for more information about the role, he said, ‘I can’t tell you, or I’d have to kill you.’ " The movie starts shooting in August. It will be directed by Zach Snyder ("300," "Sucker Punch").

The article adds that Meloni said the following about leaving the TV show: " ‘I feel very blessed to have been a part of it. … I loved the people, every person. I loved going to work. And yet with all that, we did the best we could to try to make things work for everyone, and in the end it was just better for me to keep moving, and I have no regrets.’ How does his co-star Mariska Hargitay feel about it? ‘I think she’s a little sad, as am I. You know, I don’t know if there’s been any other duo for twelve years on TV.’ "

  1. James Arness and Milburn Stone. Doc and Marshall Dillon on Gunsmoke were together on the same show for 20 years. And for 19 of those years add Amanda Blake as Miss Kitty. That is three actors working together for more than 12 years on the same TV show.
