Disney.com will soon be overhauled to provide television shows, games and movies diectly to consumers, Disney President and CEO Rogert Iger said Thursday at a digital conference, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.
Entertainment will be available through a subscription, pay-per-view or as advertising-supported media, with the debut expected within a year, Iger said.
"People go to Disney because they know its brand attributes. We believe we have an opportunity to go with our content directly to consumers," he said.
Disney’s digital overhaul comes as digital distribution provides the biggest opportunity for the media industry since the introduction of the VHS tape in the 1980s, Iger said.
