Red Sox Blame Media–Especially ESPN–After Slugger Gets Plunked by Pitch

Boston Red Sox slugger David “Big Papi” Ortiz was pointing fingers at the media, including ESPN, after being hit by a pitch in Thursday night’s game against the New York Yankees, SportsNewser reported.

In the previous game, Ortiz had showboated after hitting a homerun, flipping the bat, which prompted ESPN, along with New York newspapers, to point out that in 696 plate appearances against the Yankees, Ortiz had never been hit by a pitch.

After being plunked during Thursday night’s game–after Boston pitcher Josh Beckett had hit two Yankees, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez–Ortiz said, "I just want to thank [the media]. Not all of you, but some of you, for the stat today about me not being hit. I finally got hit. I hope you [expletive] are happy.”

Red Sox hurler Beckett added, “I’m still trying to figure out if David got hit for something I did or if it was something ESPN stirred up.”
