A new Showtime television project sets its sights on the record business in the 1970s, reports Deadline.com.

From the writing team of Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg, with Oscar winner Barry Levinson involved as director, the idea for the project, "Vinyl," emanated from co-executive producers Barry Grieff and Andy Meyer. The latter two worked at A&M Records during the early 1970s as music executives.

"Vinyl" will cover all aspects of that era, from the music created in the studios to the dance clubs where drugs, sex and excess mingled with money and promotions.
