"30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan returned to his stand-up performances after riding out a controversy sparked by his anti-gay comments, reports Dave Itzkoff in The New York Times.

“You’re all sitting here waiting for me say something about the controversy, right?” he said during a performance Saturday at Carolines in New York, according to the story. “I’m 42, man, and now all of a sudden I’m homophobic?”

During two sets Saturday, Morgan didn’t repeat the anti-gay comments that created an outcry and led to his meeting with gay youths and to an apology to Nashville audience members who were offended, the story says. "I’ve been in trouble lately, and this was big for me that you all came out," Morgan told the crowd.

But he did attract groans and a cries of "Uh-oh" with comments about developmentally disabled people, the story notes. "Don’t ever mess with women who have retarded kids," he said, according to the piece. “Them young retarded males is strong. They’re strong like chimps.”

According to the piece, "He concluded with a bit about his alleged teenage romance with a girl he described as “a cripple” with a prosthetic arm, a mechanical larynx and a portable dialysis machine. See you at the next apology?"
