Friday night’s debut of the sci-fi drama "Torchwood: Miracle Day" on Starz drew a combined audience of 1.51 million viewers for its 10 p.m. airing and its 11 p.m. rebroadcast, reports TheWrap’s The Box blog, which calls it a "very encouraging" premiere.
Nevertheless, the numbers are comparable to the turnout in April for the Starz debut of "Camelot," which drew 1.57 million viewers for its initial Friday night telecast — and despite that strong start, “Camelot” was canceled.
"Torchwood" drew 2 million viewers when Sunday night repeats are added in, the piece notes.
I loved it, but then I’ve watched Torchwood from the beginning (when the earlier seasons aired on BBC America). I still think those are pretty good ratings considering not every former Torchwood fan has access to Starz and not every one of those 1.5-2.0 million viewers ever saw the show before. Let’s hope the audience sticks with it.
Torchwood’s never been set up for more than one series at a time anyway (except series one). This and the previous series are very serial minded and have a finish, so I doubt anyone will be left wanting, even if STARZ doesn’t stick with it. BBC probably will stick with Capt. Jack & Co. in some way.

They have really got to fix this system.
