Back to the Future: NBC Changes Name of TV Production Unit Back to Original 1951 Name

Sep 13, 2011  •  Post A Comment

NBC Entertainment is changing the name of its television production unit back to its original 1951 name, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

That means Universal Media Studios will now be called Universal Television, the story says. The change is part of a push from new parent Comcast to give Universal Television a bigger presence.

Once the unit was primarily an in-house producer for its own network, but recently it has been pushing to sell shows to networks that aren’t owned by NBC or Comcast, the article notes.

  1. Listen up NBC!!! Playing wordsmith will not produce quality programming. It’s not about returning to the old name–it’s about quality television that the audience wants to view!!
