Current TV has announced the hiring of a veteran TV exec as EVP of programming, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The channel has given the job to Shelley Lewis, who most recently exec produced the PBS newsmagazine “Need to Know,” the story reports. Lewis will assume the job Sept. 19, reporting to Current President David Bohrman.

Said Bohrman: “I’ve had the great fortune of working with Shelley Lewis in the past, and she’s a great fit for what Current is doing. She is a great idea person and team leader and has the perfect combination of relationships, experience and entrepreneurial drive to help us establish Current as a new kind of multi-screen news experience for a new kind of news viewer.”

Lewis has experience at Air America Radio, which she co-created, at CNN and at ABC News.
