Fox has given a full-season order to a new fall show after just two weeks on the air, reports Bill Carter in the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

The network placed an order for an additional 11 episodes of the sitcom “New Girl,” bringing the season’s total to 24, the piece notes.

Most new shows are given smaller orders, such as 13 to begin with, and perhaps followed by a second order of nine; "New Girl"’s 11-episode order is of a size "only associated with hit shows," Carter writes.

The program, which stars Zooey Deschanel, has accomplished the unusual feat for a new show of improving the rating of the show that precedes it, "Glee," the story says.
