Here’s the Joke About Murdoch Alec Baldwin Had Taped For the Emmys That Fox Killed

So what was it that Alec Baldwin said about Rupert Murdoch and the News Corp. phone hacking scandal that Fox would not allow to be aired on last Sunday’s Emmy broadcast?

Here’s what Darren Franich has to say on EW.com’s Inside TV blog, "Although EW couldn’t learn the exact text of the joke, a source at Fox tells EW that the joke involved the suggestion that Murdoch himself was listening in on a phone call. Alec Baldwin, as the President of Television, was having a phone conversation, when he suddenly expressed indignation that someone might be hacking him, saying something to the effect of ‘Rupert, is that you?’ "

In killing the joke, according to the article, "Fox told EW that corporate connections didn’t affect the choice to cut the joke; the network merely felt it was in poor taste, in light of the serious allegations circling around the case."

Fox later re-taped the segment with Leonard Nimoy playing the President of Television.
