A popular 1980s movie will be remade for television, with NBC signing on to adapt the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s The Live Feed blog.

The movie is the 1984 adventure "Romancing the Stone," which starred Kathleen Turner as a New York romance novelist who joins a bird exporter, played by Michael Douglas, on a treasure hunt. The TV remake would track a woman who pairs with an adventurer as they try to find her missing brother.

The project is being developed by 20th Century Fox Television and Shawn Levy and Marty Adelstein’s 21 Laps/Adelstein Productions. NBC has ordered a script, which will be written by "The Forgotten" creator Mark Friedman.

  1. Can we stop with the 80s remakes and adaptations already?
Are there really no new ideas anywhere in Hollywood?

  2. Come on Bill, this show might not be so bad. And if it’s really good, it will get cancelled.
Haven’t you heard the phrase “everything old is new again?” Even that’s old!
