President Barack Obama’s jobs speech Thursday to a joint session of Congress outdrew the NFL kickoff that followed, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Top of the Ticket blog.

The speech drew 31.4 million viewers, a much lower draw than his May announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death (56.5 million viewers), but higher than his recent speeches on Libya and Iraq (25.6 million and 29.2 million, respectively), the story notes.

The NFL kickoff that followed attracted 27.2 million viewers, a slight decline from last year’s NFL opener, the story notes.
