An Oscar-nominated director will adapt the classic Jacqueline Susann novel “Valley of the Dolls” as a series for NBC, Deadline.com reports.

Lee Daniels, an Oscar-nominated director for the 2009 movie “Precious,” will write and direct the project, and will executive produce with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope, the story says.

NBC has bought the project from 20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment, the story reports.

The novel has previously been adapted as a 1967 movie, a 1981 miniseries and a 1994 late-night soap opera, the story notes.
