A well-known hip-hop and electro producer and DJ has died in what is being reported as an accidental fall from a roof in France.

DJ Mehdi’s publicist confirmed that Mehdi, 34, has died, according to The Huffington Post.

News originally broke on Twitter and was initially thought to be a hoax, the story reports. Among the tweets was this one from DJ Cut Killer: “DJ Mehdi !!! There are no words to tell you the sorrow which I feel… A friend goes from there… Rest in peace bro.”

The story adds: “Mehdi Faveris-Essadi, known by his stage name DJ Medhi, was French-born and of Tunisian descent. He first gained ground for his underground work in France’s hip hop scene, and started to really get noticed when he signed with French electro label Ed Banger Records. The young producer had collaborated with a number of big names, including MC Solarr, Daft Punk, Cassius, Carole King, and with Chromeo on his single ‘I Am Somebody.’”

French media outlets were reporting that a roof collapsed at Mehdi’s home in France, causing Mehdi to fall to his death.
