A number of names have already circulated as possible hosts for CBS’s “The Early Show,” and now another one has surfaced, the New York Post reports.
The name is Charlie Rose, a veteran newsman and PBS talk show host.
CBS recently hired Chris Licht, creator and executive producer of MSNBC’s "Morning Joe," and speculation has included the suggestion that he will install Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski as the hosts to relaunch "The Early Show."
Other names that have been floated include CNN’s Erin Burnett and Ali Velshi.
CBS News declined to comment on the Rose story, the Post reports, and Rose’s representative didn’t respond to Post questions.
Good luck to you, CBS. You’re going to need it to rescue this perenial third place morning show. Seems like they have tried everything, even handing the show over to the Entertainment Division of the Tiffany Network. The last successful morning show that CBS had was headed by a Captain. But, Bob Keeshan is, sadly, no longer with us.
I think that CBS ought to give the time back to their affiliates or try something new from a different City like Chicago. The NBC Farm Group (MSNBC) sounds like an awfully interesting and bodacious idea. How “locked up” (contracts) are the various hosts and other players to the network? I bet they do not have non-competes either….

The irony is CBS moved the former Saturday Early Show anchors to weekdays, and their replacements Russ Mitchell and Rebecca Jarvis are better! Russ Mitchell in particular is an incredibly underrated talent at CBS News. (And no, I am not related to him, I’ve never met him.)
