Movie icon Burt Reynolds, the star of films including "Smokey and the Bandit," "Deliverance" and "Starting Over," will become a cartoon figure on the FX animated series "Archer," reports Entertainment Weekly.

On the show, the title character — Sterling Archer — idolizes Burt Reynolds from the height of his stardom in the 1970s. Reynolds will make an appearance as a character on the show, voiced by the actor himself.

"Archer" creator Adam Reed said: ”I think the only person on the planet who’s a bigger fan of Burt Reynolds than me is Sterling Archer. Archer constantly tries to imitate Burt and always raves about Burt’s movies and all-around awesomeness. So to have Burt recording voice-overs for the show was just amazing.”

"Archer" returns in January on FX.
