BBC America recorded its best-ever quarter in the third quarter in prime time (up 18%) and total day (up 23%), according to Nielsen figures.

The iconic science fiction series “Doctor Who” and the worldwide hit car show “Top Gear” were among the key programs leading to strong ratings for the channel.

BBC America also received critical acclaim for programming such as the 1950s conspiracy thriller “The Hour” and the detective series “Luther.”

Said Perry Simon, BBC America general manager, in a statement: “We’ve recorded best-ever ratings three straight quarters … and introduced new drama and comedy destinations ‘Dramaville’ and ‘Ministry of Laughs.’ These results underline the sheer quality and strength of the programming we’re delivering to viewers, which will continue to grow as we add original programming to our slate in the coming months.”
