Johnny Depp Offers Apology for ‘Rape’ Comment

“Pirates of the Caribbean” star Johnny Depp has been rowing his way out of hot water after making a comment in an interview that did not go over well, Reuters reports.

Depp told Vanity Fair in an interview for its November issue that he doesn’t like being photographed, according to the piece. Depp reportedly said in the interview: "You just feel like you’re being raped somehow. Raped. The whole thing. It feels like a kind of weird … just weird, man. … Whenever you have a photo shoot or something like that, it’s like — you just feel dumb. It’s just so stupid.”

The rape comment drew a harsh reaction from the victims support group Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, and today Depp issued an apology.

In it he said: “I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling. I understand there is no comparison and I am very regretful. In an effort to correct my lack of judgment, please accept my heartfelt apology.”

The group responded that it “appreciates and accepts” the actor’s apology, the story reports.

  1. Sounds like it was Johnny Depp the pirate who uttered “rape”. After all them pirates are known for raping and pillaging. Perhaps the actor meant “unwillingly exploited”?

  2. Whatever he meant Ruth he now is atop this week’s idiot list right above Hank Williams, Jr.

  3. Pirates know all about being raped. Go look up the derivation of the colloquialism “my turn in the barrel” and see that rape is not all about women.
